Ski Lodge Style

Thursday, February 7, 2013

Following Christmas the beginning of the year can always seem a little "flat" and dull. The pretty twinkling lights are all packed away, festive treats are eaten and Spring seems a long way off! So why not steal the style of the alpine slopes and cosy up to enjoy the rest of winter? I adore the jet set, ski chalet chic with it's fabulous blend of luxury lifestyle and rustic charm. Sumptuous textures of fur, suede, and cashmere are combined with raw wood, horn, felted wool and rough bark to create a look synonymous with this pastime. A delicious colour palette of caramel, fudge, chocolate, Arctic white, wolf grey and black add a decadent touch to any interior. This look is all about indulgence and pleasure, those apres ski afternoon teas with divine chocolate cake and perhaps a cafe correctto? Evenings of fine dining and discussions of the days exploits on the slopes, followed with Cognacs by a roaring log fire. The bliss of retiring to crisp white sheets under clouds of feather duvets and fur throws, happily exhausted from the mountain air!

Mid September - a feast for the senses!

Thursday, September 13, 2012

With the countryside ripe from the late summer sun and the hint of the crisp new season to come our senses are filled with delicious new textures and fragrances. I adore this time of year and love to bring the inspiration of early Autumn into our home. The smell of woodsmoke, subtle shades of misted berries and branches, the warmth of blankets and throws all add to the cosiness that this season brings. With a soft colour palette of Mist, Hay, Fog, Bark, Elderberry, Twig, Spice and Pebble it is a restful retreat for the coming Autumn months. Here are a few of my favourite finds:

Above image: photograph by The Paper Mulberry of a gorgeous new discovery - Mi-Septembre! Divine hand made linen sachets from Paris filled with a sublime perfume so soft and enveloping it conjures up freshly mown hay warmed by the sun, Autumn spices of cinnamon and star anise and has the merest hint of creamy, spiced hot chocolate - SUBLIME!!!I adore the rustic coconut shell toggle and leather cord, perfect for hanging these sachets from a pretty coat hanger or vintage hook.

The sachet above (on a fireplace in one of our guest bedrooms)is from their "Coco Blanc" collection with the delicious fragrance captured within the most divine crisp white, rustic linen. Place them on top of pillows for a subtle way to fragrance bedlinen and a lovely warm welcome for any house guest!

Farmhouse Harvest

Thursday, September 15, 2011

Autumn is one of my favourite times of the year, when the countryside bursts into life and is filled with the most beautiful textures and tones. The soft, low sunlight creates gentle hues of palest golden green, farmhouse reds are rustic of the earth and greys are born of woodsmoke and ash. Wicker, straw, rust and scrubbed wood add texture, whilst the smells of Autumn fill the air now fresh and vibrant with the new season's bounty.
